Here We Go Again

It’s so amazing how one can find no time, when there is time, even though they really don’t have the time. I have wanted to get back into my blog for months. MONTHS I tell you! I haven’t written here since February 2018. And amongst the sheer disappointment of everything I do always coming to a complete halt, this blog was no different.

Sometime last week (I think it was last week) I opened up WordPress as I began writing an article for an online magazine- more on that another time. I decided to take a look at my blog. Because ya know, someone was going to miraculously start writing posts, and it was going to be transformed overnight without me even so much as opening the app in all those months.

I realized that at one time I had enough time to do something that I loved, which was blogging. I did it when my son was much younger than he is now. They say it gets easier as they get older, but whoever “they” are, are simply assholes. I am in more demand now with my son being six, than I was when he was two. I mean yea, a lot has changed. My life is different. Different people. Jobs. Locations. Different. But why does my love for writing on my blog have to take a backseat to everything?

I’ll admit, when I originally had my blog, The Get Fit Mom, I dedicated hours to social media, content, graphics, and really connecting with my readers. When I look back I can see that I had so many “friends” in the blogosphere, but none here on earth. Now the tables have turned. I have a ton of people in my life, and not even a smidge of an online prescence. I am literally writing right now to make myself feel better. You should feel honored actually, this here post is comparable to a diary entry.

I think the pressure for me to write on my blog comes from the need to be where I was at before. I looked like a blogger, and lived like a blogger.

But right now, I am a writer.

And I think that is a hard pill to swallow. If I want to start doing something, I have to start doing some thing. So here is yet another baby step to moving toward something that I want.

Full Moon, Blue Blood Moon, and Lunar Eclipse, Oh My!

Published by:

I don’t know about you but my energy gets so strange the days leading up to a full moon. Starting about four or five days before the full moon, I have a major emotional, physical, and spiritual shift. Things seems to feel more intense than usual. Most of the times I just blame it on hormones, given the fact that my cycle is in sync with Luna.

My sleep pattern is also radically thrown off. My bed is right under a window, so for a while I liked to sleep with the shade up halfway. The moon is on a perfect angle for the moon light to hit my pillow. I always loved the idea of moon bathing and thought it was a perfect way to bask in the moon glow while I am asleep. Although after a few full moons of this ritual, I noticed my sleep was very disturbed. I get jostled awake at night and find myself compelled to gaze at the moon. Almost as if I am being drawn to it in my half asleep state. I even have conversations with myself confirming the beauty and the light that the moon exhibits. Aside from the incessant tossing and turning, I have these disruptive episodes at least four time a night.

Janury 31, 2018: Full Moon Frenzy!

January 31, 2018 is going to be a whopper of a moon! A full moon, blue blood moon, and lunar eclipse. Some are are also calling this a SuperMoon, however according to the Farmer’s almanac, this moon does not meet the requirements of a SuperMoon. You can read more about the Farmer’s Almanac’s SuperMoon explanation here.

So let’s break down what this moon is all about.

Full Moon: The phase of the moon in which its whole disk is illuminated.

Blue Moon: The second full moon in a calendar month.

Blood Moon: The phenomenon whereby the moon in total eclipse appears reddish in color as it is illuminated by sunlight filtered and refracted by the earth’s atmosphere.

Lunar Eclipse: An eclipse in which the moon appears darkened as it passes into the earth’s shadow.

One interesting piece of information that seems to be overlooked is the Black Moon. A Black Moon occurs when there is no full moon present in the month of February. This happens roughly every 20 years, with the last being in 1999. We have two full moons in January skipping over February and our next is in March. Welcome back Black Moon, it’s been a long time!

What I Am Doing to Maximize This Spectacular Moon?

I love doing rituals and cleansings during new and full moons. The more direct an impactful the moon is on civilization, the more we can extract energy from it. Here are my plans for creating a wonderful experience for this full moon:

  • 45 minutes in the morning to complete a Self Reiki session
  • 15 minutes in the afternoon for a clearing meditation
  • Gather my crystals that will benefit by the moonlight charge
    • Crystals that I have clustered for medicine bags or specific intentions are put into a twist tie plastic bag where all the crystals can be exposed to the light. Then I lay the remaining crystals in a shallow glass baking dish. I cover it with plastic wrap and place it on the porch overnight. First thing in the morning, I bring the dish in and leave the crystals to calm down. Occasionally you can feel the buzz around the glass dish, which is why I like to leave my crystals alone for a while.
  • Ritual cleanse my house and crystals with a special blend of herbs
  • Write down intentions to manifest; place the paper in my Manifestation Chest
  • Burn Moon incense, a white candle, and anoint myself with Goddess Anointing Oil
  • In the evening, as late as I can stay up for, I do an intentional meditation to absorb the energy the moon has to give.
  • Since I know my sleep pattern will be a little shaken, when I do stir awake I will look at the moon and recite a small prayer to Luna:

Thank you Luna for shining down and enveloping me in your loving glow. May the intentions I set be blessed by your beauty, abundance, and love. Amen, A’Ho, So it is.

These are things that I plan on doing for this next moon. Feel free to follow the same ritual, or choose one or two things from the list to make your own. Regardless if you do one thing or all of them, showing gratitude to Luna is comforting. The energy the moon gives off, should be utilized and manifested in the best of ways to serve you and your higher good.

So enjoy this Full, Blue, Blood, Black, Lunar Eclipsed Moon!!

Gym Routine: Getting Back in the Gym For Good

Published by:

After having my gym membership for nearly a  month now, I finally decided to get back in the gym. I’m not going to sugar coat anything- there was procrastination, and tons of it. In all honesty, my son and I were sick, so going to the gym wasn’t going to happen. I did need a new sports bra, and the one I bought off of Amazon, needed to be returned. So those days can legitimately be counted for. However, the days surrounding those, were filled with many thoughts and emotions with getting back in the gym.

Making Today My Day

Many thoughts were about insecurities we feel when we start something new. Throw in feelings of self consciousness and judgement from others, and it’s safe to say one would stay holed up in the house. But you can’t stay there forever.

Pack Your Bags

On Monday, I had my gym bag packed and ready to go. I kept it in my car while I was at work, and promised that I was going to go when I got out. By 11am I had been on the fence with whether I was really going to get back in the gym that day or not. My nose was stuffed, my ears were plugged, post-nasal drip was trickling in the back of my throat. By 2pm I decided I wasn’t going to go to the gym. The last thing I needed to do was go to the gym and get discouraged about going in the first place.

So I made a plan to get back in the gym Tuesday morning. Afterall, I am off on Tuesdays so I could spend as much time in the gym as I wanted. I could go right after I drop my son off at school. I’ll dress in my gym clothes, grab my water bottle and never drive back to the house, but rather straight to the gym. Guess what? I did that!

On my drive to the gym, I can recount the thoughts of “get out of my way” and “I secretly hope I get stuck in traffic”.  When I got there, I pulled into the parking lot and walked in like I’ve been going there every day for years. I mean, a year ago, I was going there every day!  There was a guy sitting near the barcode scanner. I swiped my card and prayed that he didn’t see my bloated mugshot on my profile. Then I walked straight to the bathroom. After I got my belongings settled in a locker, I took a deep breath and made my way to the floor area.

Getting Back in the Gym

This is one of my favorite spots in the gym. I love grabbing a mat, foam roller, and 10lb plate and sitting on the floor. I spend the first 2 minutes searching for music to listen to that I know will get me pumped or at least keep my mind off the workouts.

Now we move on to stretches. I do a lot of stretching. It helps get the blood flowing to the muscles as well as mentally providing you with a “starting point” for your routine. My next favorite thing is the foam roller. The knobby tire looking foam rollers are probably the most misunderstood and least used objects at the gym, and I don’t know why. Foam rollers are so therapeutic to the muscles and really help break down the fascia that coats the muscle. The relief I get from using a foam roller on my back and buttocks is amazing.

Once the safe exercises were out of the way I picked up the 10lb plate and did twenty reps on each side of standing side crunches. I feel like I should have been sore after that, but I wasn’t. Oh! Here’s my favorite part!!! A good song came on and I felt like, “Guuuurl, you got this” so I decided to do weighted squats! Well, I was able to get to ten and then I needed to stop. Just to make it look like I meant to do them, I did another ten side crunches on each side, followed by five more squats.

Getting on the Blog: Making Today My Day

Published by:

I’m beginning to get more involved in my blog. I am creating a layout, designing logos, and making all the necessary changes. I want to ensure that my reader base is given the best opportunity to learn information. We can cultivate a community of knowledge and inspiration. When I had my previous blog a few years back, I had all these big ideas. Few of them came to fruition. Knowing what I know now is making it easier for me to get this blog rolling. In the meantime, my hands are itching to type away, and I can feel my camera staring at me from across the table. It’s just waiting for the snapshots to be posted.
Instead of being one of those people who wait until the perfect time to start posting things, I am going to be that person that just does it. I am going to bring you content while I get my blog fairies in a row. And that’s just fine. Once everything comes together I can celebrate with a official launch party.

Until then….

A Work in Progress….

Published by:

2018 is rolling in and fast. In a previous time not long before, I had a blog, you may or may not have heard of; The Get Fit Mom. Since then, I have abandoned the blog, blogging lifestyle, and the title. I have always held blogging as a huge interest of mine. I miss the photo ops, articles, reviews, and community that was cultivated.

The latter part of 2017 got me thinking about getting back into something that I had so much pride for. Something that I enjoyed doing on a regular basis, and something that was an extension to my personality. So as the bells rang in the new year, so did my ambition to become a part of the blogosphere once again.

Of course my usual posse of supporters were excited to hear that I am getting my ball rolling once again. So here I am. Designing. Writing. Tapping and clicking away to a new blog in this new year.
